Fun in Mandarin
Fun in Mandarin is a playtime hosted somewhat regularly at Vestal Public Library. The goal of the playtime is to create a fun environment for children to exchange ideas in Mandarin. The course designer and main instructor, Ü, teaches 注音(Taiwanese alphabet, aka bopomofo) and traditional Chinese. In each session, Ü tries to engage a special guest to share topics and ideas related to the his/her profession. Occasionally, there are outdoor playtimes scheduled. Ü has tried to host this event bi-weekly for over a year. It's free for public and mainly for children. Feel free to fill out this form to receive news about future schedule.

This project started when Ü became a mom in 2016. Ü had been looking for activities for Mandarin speaking communities but had not had much luck for years. In 2023, she completed the 4cls library road trip challenge with her three kids and made a video about the experience. This video was later shared by the 4CLS and subsequently the video connected Ü to other Mandarin speakers. Understanding their common urge of finding a Mandarin speaking environment, Ü decided to start one Mandarin meet-up group at the local library. Great thanks to Vestal Public Library for providing us a wonderful space to gather!
